The truth remains, more and more people find that they can't lose weight and it is becoming an epidemic. You might think with the number of diet products on the market right now, not to mention the number of gyms in any given town that the number of obese people in our country would not continue to grow and grow. However, the number of unhealthy foods and unhealthy diet has also grown in number and people simply do not have the discipline to avoid these kinds of food.

If you find that no matter what you do, you can't lose weight, then you are not alone. The media has talked us all into buying products that don't work, that rip us off, and actually cause harm, but you probably know, deep in your heart, that there is no real easy way to lose weight permanently. If you are like most of us, it took you years to put those pounds on, so it will take a little work to get rid of them.

There are two keys to losing weight that everyone knows, but everyone also has a hard time with. The first key is that you have to watch your diet. Most of us have no idea how many calories we eat in a single day. One thing that you can do to really identify why you are gaining weight is to do a food diary for a week. Write down every single thing you eat and drink, and the time you do it. This will give you an idea of why you are gaining weight. You will probably be astonished at how many calories that you are taking in.

We all know that there are good foods and there are bad foods, and let's face it – if you are eating at fast food restaurants, you aren't on the road to health. Even the "healthiest" item at any fast food restaurant is full of preservatives, additives, fat and sugar are the very reason why you can't lose weight. There are some salad dressings alone that have more fat than an actual hamburger.

Another reason why you can't lose weight is because most people don't do nearly the amount of exercise that they did in the past. Not only do we live much more sedentary lives (for example, working at a computer all day), but who has time to go to the gym? If you aren't getting your heart rate up for at least half an hour each day, then it is no wonder that you are continuing to gain weight.

The truth is that there are some lucky people who just happen to have a faster metabolism than the rest of us, but that is not an excuse for anyone to be obese. You don't need a lot of money to go on a Jenny Craig or Weight Watcher's diet, and you don't even need the money to join a gym in order to lose weight. If you can't lose weight by doing what you are doing right now, then you need to change it up and the best place to start is by looking at your diet and getting active.
