Start slow, really slow. If you bolt from the starting line like a racehorse all that's going to happen is that you will you quickly be out of breath and won't last for very long.
Start slow, gradually increase your pace as you go. If you start to feel that you are breathing hard, slow down. Let your lungs slowly get used to the extra work they need to do.
Tip #2
Don't slouch over when you run, run upright, with your shoulders back to allow your chest cavity to expand properly when breathing. You will also be able to get more oxygen into your lungs this way.
Tip #3
Relax as much as possible, don't clench your fists, and bunch up your shoulders, try and run as relaxed as possible. The more tired you get, the more you will be inclined to hunch over and tense your body.
Remind yourself every now and then to relax.
Tip #4
As you are breathing while running take a deep breath and hold it, if you feel that you are getting short of breath, take a deep breath, hold it for a couple of seconds and let it out again. Do this a few times, you will find that it helps to regulate your breathing.
Tip #5
Breathe through your nose, breathing through your nose is supposed to regulate your breathing. I have tried this and personally I just can't seem to get it right. There are many runners out there who say that it works, so I guess it must do. Try it out, may work for you.
